Lionel Choplin was a professor emeritus at ENSIC Nancy after having spent 26 years at ENSIC as a professor and founder of the GEMICO Industrial Research Chair. Beforehand, he had been a professor at Laval University in Québec for 11 years, as a well as an assistant professor at the Universidad de Bucaramanga in Colombia. In 2012, Lionel Choplin was awarded the Grand Prix Maurice Couette from the French Rheology Group. Lionel Choplin held a B.Eng. from INSA Toulouse and a PhD from Polytechnique Montreal, both in chemical engineering.
He was a specialist of the rheology of complex media and was recognized internationally for the development of systemic rheology, a field at the interface between applied rheology and process engineering. A seasoned researcher with over 240 peer-reviewed publications and the supervisor of the thesis work of 45 graduate students, he was also well known for his passion and talent for teaching.
Lionel Choplin left us suddenly on Nov. 24, 2021, and we will miss him a lot.
